4 Reasons to Broaden Your Vocabulary - TutorNerds

4 Reasons to Broaden Your Vocabulary - TutorNerds Tips from an Orange County Writing Tutor: 4 reasons to broaden your vocabulary Whether students are in elementary school or preparing for their SATs, they will benefit from a broad and varied vocabulary. Many students are marked down because they use the same two adjectives over and over again in a research paper or struggle with reading comprehension because there are too many words they dont recognize. By the time students get into the upper grades its important they understand how to recognize different types of words, can tell the difference between positive, negative and neutral connotations, and understand different types of jargon. These skills will be helpful as a K-12 student, but they will become essential when students go out into the world to focus on college and career. 1. One word at a time When students are assigned 20 or 30 new terms at a time, they tend to learn almost none of them. Learning new words is just like learning peoples names; its easy to remember one new person but meeting 20 people at once usually results in disaster. Its the same with vocabulary so students should focus on learning one word at a time and learning it well. They should be able to understand when its appropriate to use a particular word, be able to use it in their sentence, and know whether the word has a positive or negative connotation. 2. Words in context Its also important for students to be able to recognize words in context. A new word can have very different meanings depending on the other words around it. Is the term used sarcastically by a character in a novel? Is it meant as an insult or compliment when said out loud? Students need to know how to use words in their own spoken context as well as in their writing so that what they are trying to communicate makes sense (READ: Fullerton AP Tutoring Tips: 5 Ways to Ace AP World History). 3. Test prep vocabulary Nearly every college prep student dreads the thought of studying their SAT or ACT vocabulary. Thats because its pretty boring to memorize a list of new words. However, students can learn new words and understand how theyre meant to be used if they learn just a few words at a time and have a chance to be able to confidently use these words in their writing before they have a new set of words to focus on. This means they should start with their vocabulary study well in advance of their test date. 4. Effective communication Effective communication is required at every stage of learning and becomes essential when students get out into the workforce. They need to be able to recognize what people mean by what they say, essentially reading in between the lines. Students need to be able to understand what somebody is asking of them and also understand how to ask questions themselves effectively. Having a broad vocabulary is a big part of successful communication and can benefit students for the rest of their lives. Want to improve your writing skills? Inspirational Quotes and Sayings ~ Pietro Aretino, about Winter

Inspirational Quotes and Sayings ~ Pietro Aretino, about Winter Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius. Pietro Aretino (1492 1556) was a famous Italian Renaissance poet, author, playwright and satirist. Aretino wrote varied and voluminous writings, poems, comedies and tragedies, but he is known above all for his letters that represent unique records of the political and  cultural events of his time.  Pietro Aretino had vast influence on contemporary art and politics.

Female Doctors Better for Your Health

Female Doctors Better for Your Health pixabay.com According to Dr. Ashish Jha, “there’s a lot of evidence out there that male and female physicians practice medicine a little bit differently … The data out there says that women physicians tend to be a little bit better at sticking to the evidence and doing the things that we know work better … We estimate that approximately 32,000 fewer patients would die if male physicians could achieve the same outcomes as female physicians every year.” The records for over 1.5 million elderly, Medicare patients that were admitted to hospitals for medical reasons (not surgery) between the years 2011 and 2015 were used in this research. The report was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association’s JAMA Internal Medicine. It states, “Patients cared for by female physicians had lower 30-day mortality than did patients treated by male physicians.” Again, the difference may appear small, and Jha understands this outlook on the research. However Jha’s team ensures their readers that this matters to patient mortality. Over this four year span, a little below 11 percent of patients that were treated by female doctors died within a month of being admitted to the hospital, while 11.5 percent of patients that were treated by male doctors died within a month. On this same note, 15 percent of patients that were treated by female doctors ended up returning to the hospital within the month while 15.5 percent of patients treated by male doctors ended up returning. According to the researchers, “We estimate that approximately 32,000 fewer patients would die if male physicians could achieve the same outcomes as female physicians every year.” This is, obviously, a bold statement to make based on gender, and one that we shouldn’t take lightly. Further research will certainly need to be conducted to ascertain how much of this depends on gender dynamics and how much depends on chance and other confounding factors. According to the researchers, “Previous work has shown that female physicians have a more patient-centered communication style, are more encouraging and reassuring, and have longer visits than male physicians.” And again, the issue here isn’t just concerning the patients, but also the wage gap that, according to this data, isn’t warranted. According to Dr. Anna Parks (University of California, San Francisco), “Despite evidence suggesting that female physicians may provide higher-quality care, some have argued that career interruptions for childrearing, higher rates of part-time employment, and greater tradeoffs between home and work responsibilities may compromise the quality of care provided by female physicians and justify higher salaried among male physicians.” So what exactly is this wage gap? According to one study, white, male doctors averaged an annual salary of $250K while white, female doctors averaged an annual salary of $163K. And, according to Parks, this isn’t justified as male doctors don’t focus as much on the patients as female doctors. So what are the potential solutions to this problem? Some researchers suggest that physicians be paid based on performance, as this would create pay by merit. That being said, this is difficult to implement as it’s almost impossible to define “good performance” in such a situational setting. For instance, would oncology doctors perform worse than pediatricians on average? Of course. That being said, these researchers from this study still believe that performance-based pay could be an answer to the wage gap. But a true correction to the problem would just be to pay men and women the same salaries for the same levels at the same jobs. In other words: equal pay for equal work. Jha also notes the importance of determining what the differences between male and female doctors’ patient results entail in order to teach doctors how best to perform their duties.

Threesome Tutoring Dinner Table

Threesome Tutoring Dinner TableThreesome tutoring can help people who are contemplating the possibility of having a threesome in the near future by helping them learn how to negotiate and deal with the questions that might arise. Not only will the threesome session at the tutoring dinner table help to introduce the participants into this exciting opportunity, but it can also serve as a great opportunity for them to begin discussing and planning the logistics of the activity. In fact, if you're trying to talk with the participants about your plans for the night, be sure to hold off on actually inviting them. However, it is always best to invite them. In fact, it is crucial that you do so because it will give you the opportunity to establish what exactly you want to talk about with the participants.Just as important, however, is learning how to ensure that the threesome activities run smoothly. This means that if you plan to include the participants at the dinner table, make sure that t hey are provided with food and drink beforehand. It also means that you should set up the set-up ahead of time so that it is ready for use during the evening. For example, you might think it would be a good idea to have the two people who are involved in the event - a man and a woman - meet for the first time at the dinner table. But you can also choose to offer a camera and a microphone to each participant so that you can record the entire event. This will allow you to play it back at a later date so that everyone can see and hear everything that happened. If you are going to include both men and women, you may also want to consider getting the right equipment so that you can record the entire event. The right equipment also serves to make sure that you know exactly what is happening at the time. This is very important because it will allow you to decide if the participants are enjoying themselves.Without the proper equipment, you might be able to get away with a less than perfect ev ent. It is important that you keep that in mind.So remember, when you plan your threesome dinner table, be sure to prepare for the night ahead by prepping the participants with dinner and drinks beforehand. If you're lucky, you might even be able to entice a few new participants to join the evening.
